Like the rest of the country, the Jewish community of Esch-sur-Alzette suffered under the Nazi regime's repression during the Second World War, which lasted almost five years. Of the 125 residents who were deported, only three survivors returned. Before the war, an estimated 380 Jews lived in Esch-sur-Alzette. This memorial, consisting of three blocks, contains lists of the names of the victims and is located in a small park called ‘Place de la Synagogue’, so named because a synagogue stood here before the war. It was demolished in June 1941. A third plaque provides information about the history of the Jewish community in Esch and the history of the synagogue. More information can be found at the National Resistance Museum on Place de la Résistance, a few hundred metres away. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
