The route starts in Bech and initially leads through open countryside and small villages with a rural character. Behind Dickweiler, it passes the scenically located Girsterklaus Chapel, which invites you to linger because of the impressive view. From there it goes downhill into the Sauer valley. The next 12 km run leisurely along the Sauer to Echternach. Behind the abbey town, which is worth a stopover, follows the most difficult part of the route: a 5 km long climb to Berdorf. The effort is worth it, as the route passes famous sandstone formations such as the "Perekop." Once on the plateau, it is mostly flat to Consdorf and from there over smaller and larger roads back to the starting point in Bech.

This route initially follows a cycle path along the old Luxembourg - Echternach railway line. You walk through the tunnel in Bech, which served as a railway tunnel until 1954. Then it goes uphill to Altrier, past an old wash fountain. After hiking back to Bech, the hiking trail takes a detour east of Bech. On this section, you get a small preview of the region's rock landscape before bypassing the Hirzbierg in a large curve and then returning to the starting point.

Outlier mountains are a window into the geological past: erosion has isolated a single mountain from the aggregate to which it originally belonged. Such outlier mountains are to be observed in cuesta landscapes. Such a landscape consists of alternately stored layer packages of weathering and erosion resistant ("hard") and much less weathering and erosion resistant ("soft") rocks. The resistant rocks, also known as step formers, form steep steps, while the less resistant rocks (pedestal formers) form shallow-wave landscapes in front of the steps. In outlier mountains, the flat but steeply shaped cap from the step former protects the less resistant rocks of the pedestal former from erosion. An outlier mountain testifies that the layer of the step former originally existed beyond the level of the layer. Two small outlier mountains are preserved in front of the southern layer of the Luxembourg sandstone near the village of Bech.
