An impressive piece of history and many spectacular views await you on the Sentier Adrien Ries. Named after the Luxembourg jurist, economic expert, and author Adrien Ries, the hiking trail leads you on a total of 57 kilometers around the municipalities of the Nordstad. The Éislek unites natural landscapes with urban places. Surrounded by uninhabited slopes and plateaus, the Nordstad is the gateway to the Éislek. The Sentier Adrien Ries is divided into three circular hiking routes.

The Auto-Pédestre Colmar-Berg starts at the city park. It stretches for almost two kilometers along the Schwarzbaach, which it crosses. Then it rises almost up to Brosiushaff, where the highest point of the walk is located. At first, the path leads through the forest before it reaches Colmar-Berg across meadows. Here it runs in close proximity to the grand ducal residence, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Incidentally, the first castle located at this site dates back to 1311. Since 1934, the castle has been state-owned and is made available to the current Grand Duke and his family. During World War II, the castle was turned into a “Napola,” an elite school for girls focusing on language skills and home economics. Almost all students were of German origin and lived in the boarding school. After the war, the castle was renovated and only reclaimed by Grand Duke Jean in 1964. A few hundred meters past the castle, you reach the end of the walk.
