The roman settlement of Vicus Ricciacus was founded on the Via Agrippa joining the Mediterranean via Lyon, Metz, Trier, to Maiz and Cologne. Established around 18 BC by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa as a resting place and staging post on the site of a previous Treverian settlement. In 70/71 AD, the settlement area was reorganised and the wooden buildings were replaced by stone structures. From its former residential & commercial quarters, temples, theater and bath, the public can nowadays access excavations of a former living quarter and the theater. Admission is free. Guided tours of the theatre and the Vicus of Ricciacum are available on request. Each group may include up to 15 visitors. If you are interested in such a tour, please send your request to: contact@dalheim‑ricciacum.lu.

We leave the village in a northerly direction, walk along the edge of the forest and then head into the shady Buchholz forest until we reach the Filsdorf-Medingen road, an old, elevated Roman road. We follow this for one kilometre until we reach the Hadrian milestone, which indicates the route to Trier. Along the edge of the forest (Napoleon monument), we return to the starting point in Dalheim.

The hike begins at the town hall of Dalheim and leads through the Kettegaass up to the Taverne Ricciacus, ancient Roman thermal baths. Afterwards we briefly follow the Hossegaass to turn into Neie Wee, where the…

The hike begins at the town hall of Dalheim and leads through the Kettegaass up to the Taverne Ricciacus, ancient Roman thermal baths. Afterwards we briefly follow the Hossegaass to turn into Neie Wee, where the spectacular Romantheatre awaits us. Then we return to the Hossegaass and cross the Peiteschbierg to reach the church of St. Paul and St. Peter. After 500m we turn into the Redoutewee, which we follow to the end before crossing - very carefully! - the N13 and turning left into Munnereferwee. As soon as we reach the Stengenerbësch, we cross in a southeasterly direction. Passing the Keller we reach CR 162, where we are already on the premises of the municipality of Mondorf-les-Bains.

MTB trail Dalheim Start: Dalheim This route crosses a region that is generally less well known to visitors of the Luxembourg Moselle, the hinterland to the north of Mondorf-les-Bains, the Grand Duchy’s only spa, with its baths, its flower-filled park and its casino. Mountain bikers will cross peaceful fields and forests before reaching Dalheim, where history lovers will be interested in the remains of the Roman period (vicus with the vestiges of an amphitheatre) and the monument of the Roman eagle.
