MTB trail Greiveldange

MTB trail Greiveldange Without doubt one of the most varied and interesting circuits for nature lovers and those who revel in distant views along the Moselle, this circuit starts in the charming, typical wine-growing village of Greiveldange before climbing up wine-covered slopes with a magnificent view over the river below. After Lenningen, it begins a long path through dense forests, finally leading to a downhill slope through fields to Stadtbredimus on the banks of the Moselle. Stadtbredimus is known for its castle housing the “Domaines Vinsmoselle” cooperative cellars, as the birthplace of the national poet Edmond de la Fontaine (better known as “Dicks”), and for its dam and lock. Before returning to Greiveldange, the circuit offers another superb view over the meandering river.

In 2020 with the acquisition of my first vineyards, 'PAULS', a lifelong dream has come true. I bought Rivaner and Gewürztraminer vineyards in the area of Schengen and Remerschen. To help me with the workload, I searched for business partners to help me get the self-imposed excess of work done. Fortunately, I found great support in my friend Jeff Konsbrück from JK Winery in Ahn to help me with the cellar work. Jeff assists me with his great knowledge and experience as he took me in to help me with all the questions and problems a young aspiring winemaker could have. Besides the work in the cellar, we also find a lot of work in the vineyards themselves. In April 2020, I got a huge opportunity to sign a section of Auxerrois grapes from the Luxembourgish government, which helped us grow to 6 hectares of vineyards. A lot of work needs to be done, as well as replanting certain parts, but each square meter acquired was a great addition to the start of PAULS.

Founded in 1855, the “Stronck-Pinnel” estate is a traditional family-run business with its own sparkling wine production facility. The estate’s own Luxembourg Crémant Saints Pierre et Paul has been produced since 1992. In addition, a range of high-quality grape varieties such as Riesling, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are grown on the limestone soils of Greiweldingen. Depending on the vintage, we also produce speciality sweet wines such as ice wine or Spätlese; however, the main focus of our winery is on classic dry wines. Our vineyards are managed according to the principles of ‘integrated viticulture’. This philosophy, combined with low yields and a selective harvest of the grapes, enables us to produce the finest, most exquisite wines and crémants. The village of Greiveldange lies approximately 1 km inland from the Moselle, coming from Hüttermühle, which has the advantage that the inhabitants (around 670) need not fear flooding from the Moselle. The coordinates are: 49° 35′ 12″ N, 6° 21′ 31″ E 49.586667, 6.358611 Furthermore, the people of Greiveldange have thus been able to plant vines on their best south-facing slopes, such as Déifert, Hëtt and Häreberg, rather than building houses there. Greiveldingen was already inhabited in Celtic times, as remains of Celtic settlements were found on the outskirts of the village on the road towards Lenningen. Coming from Remich, however, you can also drive up the Primerberg and, from the top, admire the meander of the Moselle, which winds its way from Déifert around the Hamm to Hëttermillen. Every 15 August, there is a large village festival where visitors can sample the wines and crémants produced by the Greiveldingen winegrowers and admire the works of art on display at the artists’ stalls. Of course, you can also go on lovely walks or take a signposted mountain bike tour. If you simply want to taste some wine, just give us a call to arrange a wine tasting.
