Like all plants, trees capture and process solar energy. The forest plays an important role in the fight against global climate change as well as a versatile habitat for plants and animals. The forest also influences the climate. For many people, the forest is an oasis of peace, offering them relaxation and tranquility during walks and outdoor activities.

The Auto-Pédestre Lieler first leads into the wooded valley of the Réibaach and follows it to its confluence with the Our, where the famous tri-border area is located. Here, the Belgian, German, and Luxembourg borders meet. By the way, at this point the Our is a condominium, a joint sovereignty area between Germany and Luxembourg. At the tri-border area, there is also a European monument on the Belgian side, commemorating the Roman Treaties of 1957. This extraordinary place is also the lowest point of the Auto-Pédestre route. Afterwards, the path still follows the Our through the forest. Once the path leaves the Our valley, it goes steeply uphill to the starting point of the route.
