This exciting trail leads mostly through the Manternacher Fiels nature reserve. From the starting point at Burfeld, you climb up into the nature reserve and enter an impressive ravine forest. The location of the forest on the shady slope of the "Fielsmillen" ensures high humidity and coolness. Deadwood lies above a sea of limestone boulders, all of which are covered in thick layers of moss. The remains of an old mill can be found in the Syr valley. Above the former timber mill, in the middle of the forest, is the Manternacher Fiels vineyard. A little later, the mighty limestone cliffs are the next destination. The rocks, which are covered in ivy, lichen and moss, tower up to 50 metres high. Behind the Michaelslay, over 100 steps carved into the rock lead further upwards. The next highlight is the viewpoint on the Lelliger Plateau, followed by a delightful descent through former vineyard terraces, where the old steps of the vineyard walls are used for hiking. We walk eastwards out of the village and down to the Syr river. On the national hiking trail "Sentier de la Moselle" (marking: yellow rectangle) we walk along the river before ascending the wooded slope shortly before the Fielsmillen. Through the Schlammbaach valley, over the Foolgruet, and across the motorway we reach Mertert. We cross the railway tracks, walk through the park and along the Syr until reaching the Moselle bank. Along the riverside promenade, we arrive at the destination of our hike: the station of Wasserbillig, which we reach via an underpass.

MTB trail Manternach Start: "A Wiewesch" Manternach This cycle route is sheer romance for lovers of nature, rivers and hills. Breathe deeply and fill your lungs with the freshest air, far away from any pollution. Your voyage across the Moselle and the Syre valleys is the ideal way to get back to nature and discover some of the most beautiful countryside in Luxembourg. It may interest you to know that a large part of the forest is protected by a conservation programme: the Naturbësch project. The objective of the programme is to create a nationwide network of integral forest reserves (RFI) which are voluntarily excluded from any form of exploitation in order to preserve their natural state – for the forests and for you! And it’s not just conservation - projects such as this are designed to help stimulate biological diversity. To find out more about it, you should pass by the reception centre, A Wiewesch, which records the whole history of rural life. This meeting point is also the start-point for several storytelling routes through the countryside. This route revolves around wonderfully picturesque village of Manternach, which dates all the way back to Celtic times. The village lies in the peaceful calm of a natural valley, sheltered from the wind, and sandwiched on one side by vine-tapestried hills, while on the other side are the gorges and dense woodland of the Syre.

This circular hike impresses with a combination of scenic beauty and informative information panels. Using 24 topics, the interaction between agriculture and nature conservation is described. The educational trail starts at the Manternach train station and briefly passes through the Manternacher Fiels nature reserve. You first go down to the Syr. There you cross the river and the railway tracks twice. Along the edge of the forest, you follow the course of the river before heading up to Fuusskopp. Then you go across the Lellig Plateau to Lellig. Along the Oster and Wuelbertsbaach, the path leads back to the starting point.
