ExtraTour A connects to the Mullerthal Trail to the west and links the villages of Larochette, Nommern, and Medernach. The section from Medernach to Larochette runs directly on the Mullerthal Trail. Larochette is a well-known holiday and excursion destination due to its basin location between the rocks and the castle ruins perched on the rocks. From Larochette, the path goes through the forest to Meysemburg Castle. From there, the route leads across a beautiful meadow and pasture landscape towards Nommerlayen. These impressive rocks are very famous in the region. Sure-footedness and sturdy footwear are strongly recommended here. From Nommern, the hike goes through the Seitert forest area to Medernach, where it meets the Mullerthal Trail again. Both villages offer places to rest and eat. Possible starting points: Larochette: Place Bleech / Nommern: Town Hall / Medernach: Town Hall

In 1845 the first Jewish family came to Medernach. Other Jewish families lived in neighbouring villages (Waldbillig, Christnach). Most of them were active as cattle traders. In 1930 the Jewish community in Medernach counted some 33 members. On 16 October 1941, 18 Jews from Medernach were deported to the ghetto of Litzmannstadt. On 28 July 1942 the last 8 Jews from Medernach were deported to the ghetto of Theresienstadt. None of this small community survived. In 1959 and 2021 memorials were inaugurated at the place of the former “synagogue”, as a sign of remembrance to this community.

Starting in Medernach, the route initially steadily ascends through the valley of the White Ernz to Larochette and continues on side roads via Haller and Waldbillig to Christnach. The route continues to be varied in terms of landscape, passing through several villages such as Bech and Consdorf, reaching Berdorf after 42 km. From there follows a steep descent - past unique rock formations - into the valley of the Black Ernz. After a short flat section, the next ascent follows up to the plateau of Beaufort. Shortly behind "Beeforterheed" the route descends towards Reisdorf with a magnificent view of the Sauertal. The last ascent follows from Reisdorf, going uphill along the White Ernz and via Folkendange and Ermsdorf back to the starting point in Medernach. Photo: © Mullerthal Cycling / Lutz

The varied circular route first leads to the Medernach Kengert barefoot path. Here it’s time to take off your shoes and go exploring. There is also a motor skills park where you can test your balance and coordination. Then you walk past a spring (Ousterbuer) and later through the busy town of Larochette with numerous cafés and a lively marketplace – perfect for a break. From there, the route continues with great views of Fiels Castle. Forest, meadows and open land alternate pleasantly on this path.
